Microneedling Treatment
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that involves using fine needles to create tiny punctures in the top layer of the skin. This process stimulates the body's natural wound healing processes, resulting in cell turnover and increased collagen and elastin production. Here are some reasons why people opt for microneedling facial treatments:
-
Skin Rejuvenation: Microneedling can improve the overall texture and tone of the skin, making it look more youthful and vibrant.
-
Reduction of Scars: It is commonly used to reduce the appearance of acne scars, surgical scars, and other types of scarring.
-
Minimization of Fine Lines and Wrinkles: By promoting collagen production, microneedling can help to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
-
Reduction of Pore Size: The treatment can make pores appear smaller by tightening the skin.
-
Improvement in Skin Elasticity: Increased collagen and elastin can lead to firmer, more elastic skin.
-
Treatment of Hyperpigmentation: Microneedling can help to reduce the appearance of dark spots and uneven skin tone.
-
Enhancement of Product Absorption: The micro-channels created during the procedure can enhance the penetration and efficacy of topical skincare products.
-
Hair Growth: Some people use microneedling to stimulate hair growth on the scalp by increasing blood flow to hair follicles.
-
Stretch Marks: It can also be used to reduce the appearance of stretch marks.
-
Safe for All Skin Types: Microneedling is generally safe for all skin types, as it doesn't involve the use of heat or chemicals that could potentially cause pigmentation issues.
How It Works

Our skin is comprised of many different cell structures and proteins. The three main ones you may be familiar with are Elastin, Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid. As we age, production of these proteins slow down. Elastin is the second most common protein in the Dermis, it gives the skin its bounce and vitality. Aging elastin is a major contributor to sagging and wrinkling. Collagen is the most predominant protein in the skin tissue. Collagen is tough and does not stretch easily. It provides strength to the skin and holds the skin together. Hyaluronic Acid is a water-binding substance that creates a fluid that fills the space between the collagen and elastin fibers in the dermis providing plumpness to the skin. Hyaluronic Acid contributes significantly to cell proliferation and overall skin health. Microneedling directly effects these three proteins and utilizes growth factors that instruct the body to develop new, healthy, younger looking skin.
We are well aware that we are able to regenerate our skin. When we cut ourselves we can heal and create new skin; sometimes causing a scar, depending on how deep or severe the cut was. When this happens our skin reacts by going into "emergency repair" mode to close the wound. As a result, scar tissue is formed due to fast collagen proliferation in a parallel formation. This is inferior collagen production known as Collagen Type II.
Over 90% of collagen in the human body is Collagen Type I. Collagen Type I, fibers which have a basket weave formation found in normal skin, are primarily responsible for determining the structure, shape and texture of our skin. Microneedling creates micro-channels in the skin, stimulating the skin with controlled "damage" that is microscopic causing the wound healing process without triggering the "emergancy repair" response. These slight injuries occur by the thousands of pinpricks from the the micro-needles, Fibroblasts, oxygen and growth promoting properties invade the treated area. Cell-to-cell communication is improved and cell function is enhanced. This procedure causes the skin to respond by producing new collagen-rich tissue. This new skin tissue is more even in structure, tone and texture.

MicroNeedling Process
TREATMENT PROTOCOL
Based on best practices, 3 treatments are recommended, 6 weeks apart.

WHAT YOUR APPOINTMENT WILL LOOK LIKE
Starting with double facial cleansing and finishing with a relaxing hot steaming towel. A topical numbing anesthetic is then applied to the skin in order to eliminate any discomfort during treatment. Afterwards, the numbing agent is removed and skin is cleansed once again. An antiseptic cleanser is then wiped over the entire area right before the process.

During the microneedling procedure, pure Hyaluronic Acid is used to infuse the process. "Mapping" the treatment area occurs according to the thickness in skin. For example, the forehead has thinner skin then your cheeks. The micro-needles only pierce to the depth where pin-point bleeding can been seen using magnification during the treatment. You never see any blood. After the procedure is complete we finish with the application of a Hyaluronic Acid mask and ice globes to cool and refresh the treated area.

After the microneedling treatment, the treated area will be tender with mild to moderate redness that should diminish within a day or two. Your skin will feel heated, similar to a sunburn. It's best not to wear any make up for the first 24 hours. Over the course of several days you may experience dryness and mild flaking as your skin begins its healing cascade. Only use products given in your take home care kit for the first week.
Enjoy your new baby soft skin!
